The Janus Effect

The Janus Effect

The Janus Effect: Janus was the Roman God who looked both ways and embodies the idea of someone who appears to hold different and contradictory ideas at the same time. Film maker Malcolm Hossick explores how this affected the lives of three remarkable men - Adam Smith, Thomas Jefferson and Charles Darwin. In each case their loyalites to others conflicted with the opinions they were propounding in their lives, in ways very disturbing to them. Fortunately they managed to live with these contradictions to the great benefit of we who follow them and this account of their struggles makes fascinating viewing. (dur. 55 minutes HD)
